"The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don't"
- Marie Kondo
It is that time of the year when we all want to bring out the Marie Kondo's inside us and deep clean our houses for a clutter free year ahead.
The fresh warm winds of March brings a sense of renewal and revival. Take this time to declutter both your physical and mental space. It may seem daunting at first but don't worry, the process itself will help you feel lighter as you clear the junk out of your space.
With a difficult past year, a lot of us have been troubled, but it's now time to lift the spirits and welcome spring into our decluttered houses and minds.
Let us look at some of the best ways to help you spring clean this year.
1.Make a list
It may seem boring, but making a list is the most useful tip you can get. It will help you evaluate and prioritize in your mind and speed up your cleaning process. Make a checklist of all the cleaning items you need and gather them, and then prioritize what needs to be done first. Do not aim at cleaning everything in a single day. Take your time and spread the cleaning process across a few days.
2.Use the top down process
Start by cleaning the ceilings and cobwebs from your living rooms and bedrooms and gradually clean downwards so that you can gather all the dust and dirt on the floor and sweep it in the end. Make sure you do not forget the corners.
Making the bed and vacuuming the floor won't get you anywhere. There is dust and dirt in those light fixtures, under the bed and behind the dresser. Move the furniture around and clean out the nasty accumulated dirt. Remove your bed linens, including pillow covers and comforters. Also this might be a great time to consider shifting to bamboo sheets.
Bamboo sheets are hypoallergenic and breathable. It also has natural thermal regulating abilities which will keep you cool in summers and warm in winters. Switch to bamboo sheets and pillow covers this spring.
Kitchen has numerous items that need cleaning. Start off by discarding extra utensils that you rarely use. And also think about using more sustainable alternatives in your kitchen like bamboo made spatulas, bottles and containers. Deep clean your stove and microwave. Use a dry cloth for cleaning the microwave. Do not forget to clean your sinks and drains that clog up.
Pro hack - Pour 1 cup of baking soda in the drain followed by 1 cup of vinegar. Let it bubble for some time and then pour boiling water into it.
Make sure you take your coffee break while cleaning, it's important!
You can keep the bathroom for the last. Start by cleaning the bathtub, using a crevice cleaner helps with the edges. Then go on and clean the toilet, it can be nasty, but it's important. Lastly, clean the mirror using a cleaning cloth or paper towels.
Now that you have taken care of deep cleaning your house it's time to undergo some healthy diet cleanse as well. While cleaning the kitchen make sure you discard all the packaged food that has been expired from your fridge. Switch to a fresh diet this spring. Avoid eating out of plastic packages. Processed foods carry many toxins, so use this spring cleaning excuse to switch to a more locally sourced fresh veggies, fruits and dairy.
This spring deep cleanse your space and your soul. Dump the excess and switch to a more sustainable and minimal way of living.
